Solio Game Reserve
is located in Laikipia County, 22 kms from Nyeri town. It is a privately owned wildlife sanctuary consisting of 19,000 acres surrounded by 45,000 acre Solio Ranch.
With 50 years (1970-2020) of successful rhino conservation program, the reserve has received international acclaim and the befitting title “The Heartbeat of Rhino conservation”. Its rhino breeding/ re-population and relocation effort, has benefitted Kenyan National parks and local sanctuaries and further regional parks in Uganda and Malawi.
Solio game reserve is a harmonious sustainable habitat for wildlife from big cats, to grazing herbivore game and numerous bird species.
(0930 Hours): Guest pick up, brief introduction by tour driver/guide and departure from a Nyeri/ Naromoru/Nanyuki hotel after breakfast. The drive is approximately between 0.5-1 hour.
(1030 Hours): Arrive at the entry gate for registration then proceed on a game drive through designated tracks.
The 19,000 acre reserve has abundant wildlife with common sightings of, giraffe, zebra, Thompson’s gazelle, impala, Oryx, sunis hyena, water buck and buffalos. It is also ideal for big cat viewing such as leopards, cheetahs and freely roaming lion prides. Not to forget, the gems of the conservancy the numerous populations of Black rhinos and Southern White Rhinos.
Bird watchers will spot numerous species criss- crossing the acacia vegetation amongst them European rollers, fly catchers, eagle owls, long crested eagles and buzzards. Many more bird colonies inhabit the Engare Moyok Swamp.
(1300 Hours): We break for lunch; have our packed lunches at a designated site.
(1400 Hours): We proceed for another game drive.
(1530 Hours): Exit the Solio Game Reserve gate and drive back to a Nyeri/ Naromoru/Nanyuki hotel.
(Between 1600-1630 Hours): Arrive back at your hotel/ residence.
Note: We can arrange horseback riding, bush walks and nature biking at an added cost on your day tour.
