Day 1: Pick up clients from hotel or residence in the morning and drive through Nyeri-Nyahururu Road. Have lunch on the way then head directly to the Aberdare National park Main gate for registration and entry. Take a leisurely game drive ending at the Ruhuruini Gate campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Start off with breakfast and a morning game drive. Head towards the moorland where you are bound to spot numerous game and birds. This will be the ideal time for wildlife photography. We head over to River Chania which hosts one of the smaller but picturesque waterfalls of the same name; Chania falls. Spend the day here enjoying some trout fishing and later drive to the Reed Buck Campsite for an overnight stay.
Day 3: We take a leisurely and scenic 14km hike through the park headed towards Karuru Waterfalls (which is the highest in Kenya at 273m). Pass through Magura waterfalls & Queen’s cave for lunch. Thereafter head over to Honi River Campsite for the night.
Day 4: We drive to the road end of the Ol Donyo Le Satima, “mountain of the bull calf” as it’s referred to by the Satima Morans. It marks the highest point in the Aberdares at 4001m. It is an easy walk approximately 7km one way. Enjoy your packed lunch at the summit. We drive out of the park via the Wandare Gate and head to Naromoru town for a night’s stay at one of the local hotels.
Day 5: Rest, acclimatization and preparation for mountain hike. Visit office to assemble all provisions and gear for the next day.
Day 6: Client pick up from hotel after breakfast. Drive to Mt. Kenya National Park- Naromoru gate, with all provisions, porters and guides. Hike at a leisurely pace from the KWS park gate to Met Station (3048m/ 10,000ft). This is approximately 10km and will take about 3-4 hours. You will be served with lunch and spend the night at one of the available facilities.
Day 7: Begin with breakfast and take a gradual hike to Mackinder’s camp (4,100m). This is approximately 10km and will take about 5-6 hours due to the steep ascent. Lunch will be served on the way there. We will spend the night at Mackinder’s camp (4,100m) at the indoor facility huts.
Day 8: Wake up before dawn for the pre-summit attempt. Head for point Lenana the 3rd highest peak of Mt. Kenya. After morning summit, descend back after sunrise to Mackinder’s Station for Brunch. Continue descent to Met Station, overall time to be taken will be about 8-10 hours. Your vehicle and tour driver will be waiting to pick you from Met Station for your exit drive.
